My very favorite thing about owning our first home has been filling it with beauty. But decorating on a null budget has it’s challenges. The first several months of homeownership I felt completely defeated. I had so many great ideas for making our home beautiful but didn’t have the means (read: money) to make it happen. It was so frustrating! So I put decorating on hold for several months. (really until after the girls were born and sleeping through the night!)
Slowly over the past several months I’ve been learning that I can make my home beautiful, even on a strict budget! It just takes a little creativity. Through repurposing items I already had but didn’t love I’ve been able to fill my home with items that have beauty and meaning on little to no money. And you know what? I love decorating this way! Each new piece comes with a story and even better than that, my home is uniquely mine. It looks much less like Hobby Lobby, and much better reflects my style and personality!
A Beautiful Mess Happy Handmade Home has been such an inspiration in my journey of turning our house into a home. Sisters Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman have such a fun and quirky style. I loved looking through all of their projects. I found myself giddy with every page turned. The beautiful images of their home had me thinking of so many new projects I’d love to incorporate into mine! Seriously, this book is inspiring!
If this book were only pictures of Elsie and Emma’s home, I would have been 100% satisfied, but there’s more! Within the pages, you’ll also find recipes and ideas for hosting dinner parties, craft tutorials, and organizational tips. There are great photos for every project (great for visual learners!) and the book is split up into sections (kitchen, living room, small spaces, etc) which makes it easy to flip to the area of your home where you’re needing inspiration!
My home still has a long way to go, but books like this one are great fuel to keep me inspired. Elsie and Emma are insanely creative and have written a beautiful book for those of us seeking a little creative inspiration to get us going on making our homes uniquely ours! I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to make a beautiful handmade home!
